The SolSol project includes an educational building block, which intends to teach interested local persons –both young women and men—the necessary technical and supervisory skills needed to design, plan, install, maintain and supervise an solar power station in remote, isolated areas.
SolSol’s Engineering School is a set of training courses designed for different student groups, based on their main activities.
Courses
Installation
This course is intended for the “hands-on” outdoor people, who will physically install the SolSol system at a site location.
The SolSol system consists of
- The power house, with solar panels, inverters, the battery storage system, security devices
- The Distribution Network connecting the power house and the user’s homes
- The User connections, connecting the user’s homes to the solar power network
Engineering and System Design
This course is intended for the people of the engineering team located at the SolSol main office location in Lae. This course provides the required knowledge to convert information from photos and collected locally at the project site location into a viable robust plan for a complete electrical and mechanical system design, engineering drawings, energy demand calculation and forecasting.
Quality Assurance
This course is intended for people at the project location having the task of regularly going out to inspect the completeness and integrity of all system components at the power house, the distribution network and the user connections.
The course provides the methods, checklists and control routines to ensure that all elements of the system are kept in good condition, working and delivering the power levels and reliability metrics as designed.
Energy Management
This course is intended for people at the project location having the task of recording and administrating the production, distribution and usage of the solar energy generated by the SolSol system.
The course provides the methods and tools needed for meter reading, identification and quantification of energy losses, allocation of energy quota for users, evaluation of consumption patterns and regular reporting of results to the Engineering team at the SolSol main office.
